Red Blaze beyond the ordinary: Re-thinking event destinations for unique experiences - Romania

by Cat Preston

Ready to explore a new destination? Romania is one of the oldest and largest countries in Europe, with a population of approximately 19 million inhabitants and founded in 106AD. It is a country with a remarkable cultural and ethnic diversity, as well as natural beauty and delicious gastronomy. Perhaps the Transylvania history, and indeed Dracula, is the most commonly associated point of focus for this country but Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is our point of focus for this article.

Bucharest

Bucharest, the busy and vibrant capital of Romania, known as “little Paris” or more recently as the “new Berlin”, boasts wide boulevards, an interesting architectural mix, old churches, beautiful parks and one authentic vibe.

This city is home to many museums, art galleries, theatres, opera, concert halls and plenty of bookstores and libraries. Modern, well-known hotel brands such as the Marriott and Intercontinental are situated in this city, and its excellent transport links across Europe make it an often forgotten but brilliant location for corporate groups.

Cuisine is important to residents and it is an increasingly popular foodie travel destination, with a definite hipster vibe of bohemian, where you can find everything from specialty coffee and craft beer, to raw vegan food and re-interpreted Romanian cuisine. The streets are filled with cosy bars, posh restaurants and trendy clubs where the party starts at dusk and continues with an after-party until lunch time. Everything is possible in Bucharest: a quiet night enjoying live music over a drink or clubbing at a themed party until the small hours!

Thinking Differently Activity Highlight

Discover Bucharest through your 5 Senses; a team activity across the city.

  • Hearing: a classical quartet will be waiting for you in front of the famous Romanian Atheneum ( place of the international contest George Enescu) playing  melodies to recognise (Liszt, Brahms, etc.)
  • Touch: you will see a stunning demonstration by a traditional artisan and the participants will be able to  do it by themselves.
  • The view: The teams will be able to admire the city as well as the Parliament Palace – second in the world after the Pentagon, following their itinerary by a cocktail on the rooftop of Nomad SkyBar in the old town.
  • The taste: what is the famous culinary taste of Romania?
  • Smell: Savour the waters of life otherwise called Tuica and identify the fruit that is composed just by smell.
